1978 – 1982 Avercet Engineering Ltd. Retford Apprentice Draughtsman. Four year apprenticeship as an Engineering draughtsman having education in Workshop techniques, welding, plating and general fabrication. Six months on shop floor training followed by six months drawing office. My duties involved detailing out moulds for concrete, running a busy print room and draughting practices. I attended Arnold and Charlton College of Further Education where I gained a Technician’s certificate qualification in mining and engineering on a day release, which is equivalent to 5 A levels or an ONC.
1983 – British Leyland Cars. Oxford, Sick Relief, I had the chance to view the production of a car from almost every workers point, including paint prep, body forming, interior and exterior assembly, even distribution of the cars for shipment. Working a full night shift pattern I gain valuable insight into the real world of automotive construction.
