1983 – 1984 – Varne Yachts Ltd Production Assistant All aspects of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) mould preparation and laying up processes, usually within a Marine environment. The plugs (patterns) for the moulding process linked seamlessly with my experiences with steel moulds for concrete. Even if the substrate had different properties the process was very similar. I attended many shows with the boats and enjoyed the whole process of hull design and manufacture. The company diversified into other GRP products and I was responsible for making sure that orders were full-filled and delivered, to customers in both time and quality parameters.
1985 – 1989 – VIP Exhibitions Ltd Exhibition Manager
The previous company diversified into the Exhibition Market place and I was responsible for maintenance delivery and erection of many exhibition stands in both halls and on show grounds. This meant working with a team or in isolation and also necessitated an HGV class one training, and capabilities to move some of the larger stands around. All the companies we looked after we blue chip companies and so only the very best turnout was acceptable and this meant many hours preparing and organising shows.
1989 – 2015 – VIPEX Ltd, 3D Designer and Graphic Artist.
24 years – Product Development Creation of new products to fill new market places, Involving researching markets and world requirements to run the see a need fill a need ethos within strict boundaries of economy, ecology, safety and legislation. This involved creating a range of vehicles which could be pre specified and pre costed without the need to get involved with the design process
28 years – Brand engineering production and application of vinyl cut signage system, working with top brands to reproduce a faithful image of the corporate identity on the exterior of the vehicles. This involved becoming fluent in the use of vinyl cutting software and hardware. Vehicle refinishing preparation of various types of paint and graphic finishes.
22 years – front facing Sales response. Preparation of specifications and quotations with an emphasis on conceptual design put in such a fashion that laymen could understand the technical capabilities of the product which was specialist vehicles. This involved a considerable amount of computer generated imagery which I was totally responsible for the modelling and rendering of.
30 years – Marketing experience. Creation of Sales and marketing strategies. Given the challenge of having a completely reactive, new product every time the emphasis was on consistency. This necessitated the formation of a partnership offering a full service option which bought the subjects of operation, finance and maintenance to the functions of design and manufacture of specialist vehicles. The world wide web was launched in the 90’s and this bought on the advent of key board boffins who could appear to be as proficient as any supplier so more and more ingenious ways of promoting the products were created
