Today I will be mostly considering spirit. According to Micheal Palin in “The Life of Brian” it is bwevardo, bewing do, spiwit.
To me it is much more than that. It is within us all, whether we choose to know it or not.
It is the stuff that drives us forwards when things seem hopeless, but more than that it is the motivation for man and woman … thank you brother … er sister sorry, to put down his animal shackles of pure existence and take his place in the real world and live.
I have experienced both sides of the coin being a human animal for forty two years and then being released into the wilds by a quirk of fate (or by the hand of God if you don’t believe in coincidences, which I don’t)
I can see the benefits of both views. One is simple and driven by the hardwired desires to survive and the other is peaceful and serene and, as an added bonus, you get to watch all the human animals do what they do best, aimlessly running round in circles wondering what is going on. On reflection, it is much easier being a human animal, but more satisfying to be a smug bugger who actually is well on his way to figuring it all out. Then again I could be delusional, that’s the beauty of thought.
